Futuristic singer Grimes, a.k.a. Claire Boucher, spoke out on behalf of Beyonce, Korean pop singer PSY and Mariah Carey this week. She wrote a thoughtful post on why these people matter. Also, Eminem is definitely releasing a new album this year. According to his label’s president, it’s coming very soon (like right after Memorial Day soon). All that and more below.
- Grimes Loves Beyonce: Even though her music is nothing like Beyonce’s, Grimes singer Claire Boucher defended the Superbowl singer in a lengthy post on her Tumblr, which she has since deleted. Boucher also spoke out in defense of “Gangnam Style” and Mariah Carey. Of Beyonce, she said, “How can you hate Beyonce? She’s changing the world. She stands for people of colour and women everywhere succeeding in a stifling patriarchy without compromising her morals.” Regarding the Korean pop star PSY, she said, “I think it’s f**king incredible that a Korean language song is the most popular thing on the planet. That’s so good for humanity… PSY is a genius and I don’t think it’s so terrible that he’s been recognized for this.” She also referred to Carey as her inspiration for starting Grimes. - New Eminem Record On The Way: So, that hat hint Eminem dropped last year was real. The rapper’s next album is coming to stores after Memorial Day. According to Rolling Stones, Shady Records president Paul Rosenberg said that Eminem is “far into the process” of recording his eight studio album, and that he expects to release it this year. He’ll also be playing some shows in Europe.
- David Bowie And Iggy Pop Movie Coming Soon: David Bowie and Iggy Pop‘s life is coming to the big screen. According to Rolling Stone, a new biopic titled Lust For Life will focus on the musical legends’ collaboration in West Berlin in the 1970s. Death Of A President director Gabriel Range will helm the film. Producer Egoli Tossell said that the film is not a “traditional rock biopic” because no one dies at the end. Sad, but true.
- Elton John Also Collaborated With QOTSA: It turns out, Elton John also contributed to the next album by Queens of the Stone Age. The singer told Chelsea Lately guest host (and Foo Fighters‘ frontman) Dave Grohl about recording a song with them and Alice in Chains. Check it out:
