Fans of breathy and electro synth-pop, the reunion you’ve waited 10 long years for has come—assuming you haven’t finally outgrown breathy and electro synth-pop like everyone else—as The Postal Service has announced their long-awaited reunion.
Yes, The Postal Service—the duo of Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello—will be reuniting this year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their only album (2003’s Give Up). The reunion is one that has been long-rumored and anticipated by fans, while Gibbard (who is also the frontman for Death Cab For Cutie) has essentially spent the past decade discouraging any hope of a reunion or new album. Now, however, The Postal Service website has come alive again, and features a notices that states “The Postal Service 2013,” according to Billboard.
So, what to expect in 2013? Well, The Postal Service’s album, Give Up, is getting the 10th anniversary re-release treatment from SubPop via a deluxe edition. The release is set for February, to coincide with the February 19, 2003 anniversary.
Moreover, the band is now set to tour for the reunion as well. The band will indeed be playing Coachella, as well as other festivals and tour dates that are currently unspecified.
One thing you shouldn’t do, however, is hold out for new music. Gibbard has stated time and again that he simply has no interest in recording music for the band.
