Rodney King Passes Away At 47

Los Angeles resident Rodney King, who is best known as the man who suffered a brutal beating at the hands of LA police officers back in 1991, was found dead in his Rialito, CA home earlier today. As you may know, the 1992 LA riots erupted when the officers on trial for his beating were found not guilty of all charges, despite videotape evidence. Today, sadly, we learn that King was found dead at his home. According to initial reports, Rodney King drowned in his swimming pool. He was only 47 years old.

Rodney King — the man who was at the center of the infamous Los Angeles riots — was found dead this morning in Rialito, CA. He was 47. According to our sources, King’s fiancée found him dead at the bottom of a pool. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ they responded to a call at 5:25 AM PT. We’re told they physically removed King from the pool and attempted CPR. Our sources say he was pronounced dead at 6:11 AM. Law enforcement sources say Rialto PD will open a drowning investigation, but so far there are no signs of foul play. King became famous in 1991 when he was the victim of police brutality at the hands of the LAPD. The officers involved in the incident were acquitted the following year and the announcement of the verdict led to the Los Angeles riots … According to our sources, King’s fiancée is telling friends King had been drinking and even smoked weed in the hours just before his death.

Ugh, what a terrible way to die, news of King‘s death is just really sad. I was very young when the Rodney King trial took place but anyone with eyes, anyone who saw the videotape evidence of King‘s beating could see that excessive force was used by those police officers. When the officers were acquitted, the downtrodden here in LA decided enough was enough and the city erupted in riots and fire. I always felt so bad for King for being at the center of this sad time in LA history. I understand the man managed to find peace in the years following his beating and I can only hope that his last moments of life were as painless as possible. He lived with so much pain in life, hopefully the man is finally at peace now.
