TV anchor/talk show host Anderson Cooper has revealed that he is gay and he is proud to be a gay man.
Cooper has always been the seemingly single guy throughout his career and that caused many to speculate about whether or not he was gay. Anderson has always been a very private person, which only added fuel to the fire so to speak. However in a recent email interview with his long-time friend Andrew Sullivan, who works for The Daily Beast, he admitted to being gay.
The conversation began when Sullivan asked Copper his thoughts on a recent cover story by Entertainment Weekly, which talked about how gay people in the public eye are coming out in a much more understated and matter of fact ways. The question prompted the Anderson 360 star to respond with an email about his thoughts on the subject as well as his own sexuality.
“Andrew, as you know, the issue you raise is one that I’ve thought about for years. Even though my job puts me in the public eye, I have tried to maintain some level of privacy in my life. Part of that has been for purely personal reasons. I think most people want some privacy for themselves and the people they are close to. It’s become clear to me that by remaining silent on certain aspects of my personal life for so long,” he continued. “I have given some the mistaken impression that I am trying to hide something – something that makes me uncomfortable, ashamed or even afraid. This is distressing because it is simply not true. The fact is, I’m gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud.”
Wow, I have to say as usual Cooper handled himself with class and dignity. That is really all I have to say on the subject because quite honestly I think he is an awesomely talented journalist and his sexuality doesn’t matter to me. It shouldn’t to anyone else either.
