"Despicable Me 2" Takes Top Slot in Weekend Box Office; "Pacific Rim" Opens at #3
It was a weekend of sequels for the box office this weekend with "Despicable Me 2" and Grown Ups 2" nabbing the 1 and 2 slots.
For the second weekend in a row, the animated flick reigned supreme, grossing $44.8 million for a worldwide total of $472.4 million, on track to overtake the first film's total gross this week.
Close behind was "Grown Ups 2," which opened at $42.5 million domestically despite less than stellar reviews.
Failing to rocket ahead of the sequels, "Pacific Rim" snagged $38.3 million domestically, making a total of $91.3 million worldwide. Unfortunately, the action film will have to do better to justify its $190 million budget.
Rounding out the top three was the comedy "The Heat," and Disney's "The Lone Ranger." Meanwhile, in the specialty box office, "Fruitvale Station" grossed $377,285 from just seven theaters, likely due to the timely subject matter of the shooting of a young African-American man by BART police in Oakland.

Amanda Bynes wants a million dollars for having her mind illegally read and her privacy stolen. If you just read that and LOLed then you’re welcome. Girlfriend is off her rocker.
Seriously, my mind was illegally read too and no one gave me anything. But Sookie Stackhouse was just as nice in persona as she is on the TV y’all!
Late last night Amanda went on a Twitter binger and Tweeted all kind of craziness.

Meanwhile, Drake is further adding confusion to the issue by saying he is very close with Amanda and she is fine:
“Amanda and I are close… I talk to her every day. She’s a sweetheart. I had lunch with her yesterday, and she’s brilliant. She’s good, and she’s healthy. … I’m like ‘dude, you come off crazy.’ She’s like, ‘I know, but I don’t mean to. I just changed the way I look’. … Anytime I’ve ever been with Amanda, she’s totally coherent, totally there, totally everything.”
It is not so much about her looks (though she looks completely different and often scary) but more so about these crazy rants that come out of left field and leaving you feeling like this girl may just not be okay.
I just hope she doesn’t turn into a Lindsay Lohan or worse.

Breaking News: CORY MONTEITH Found Dead
OMG. ‘Glee‘ star Cory Monteith was found dead in his room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel yesterday. He was only 31. Cory’s publicist released a statement to People.
“We are so saddened to confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate. We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss.”
Police stated that an investigation is being conducted, including an autopsy scheduled for tomorrow. At this time, there are no indications of foul play. They would not discuss what was found in his room. Acting police chief Doug LePard said:
“There were others with Mr. Monteith in his room earlier (Friday) night, but video and fob key entries show him returning to his room by himself in the early morning hours and we believe he was alone when he died. When he missed his check-out time, staff went to the room at noon and found his body.
“We know there will be considerable interest in this case, and we have detectives assigned to the case who attended with our Forensic Identification Unit to examine the scene, to ensure to the extent possible that there are no unanswered questions. Hotel video has been secured as well as room access records. Our investigators have spoken with hotel staff, who are providing the utmost in cooperation.
“On behalf of the Vancouver Police, I want to pass on our condolences to the family, friends, castmates and millions of fans of Mr. Monteith. As was the case in countless homes, I watched Glee regularly with my daughters, and I know there will be shock and sadness in many households with the news of his tragic death.”
That certainly is true: this is tragic. Our condolences go out to Cory’s family and friends.

Whitney Houston dies at 48
It’s no secret she’s had a rough go of it in recent years, and Whitney Houston has died of undisclosed causes, says her publicist Kristen Foster.
With her fans and friends understandably devastated by the news, details available thus far tell that the “I Will Always Love You” singer was found unresponsive in her room at the Beverly Hilton hotel on Saturday (February 11).
With paramedica arriving within minutes, Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55PM with a full investigation already underway - though there are said to be no signs of foul play.
According to TMZ, a search of the Beverly Hilton Hotel room in which the 48-year-old was staying found no illegal drugs, though prescription medications were located.
TMZ adds that there’s a chance Miss Houston died from drowning in the bathtub, but since her body was removed from the water before EMTs arrived the conclusive determination must await an autopsy.

<P>All the single ladies: Put your hands up and show Beyoncé some love for looking so smoking hot just 10 weeks after <a href="/news/articles/1676906/beyonce-jay-z-baby-born-ivy-blue.jhtml">giving birth to her baby girl, Blue Ivy</a>. </P><P> </P><P>After multiple sightings of the star out and about in NYC since she first emerged at a <a href="/news/articles/1678726/beyonce-post-baby-appearance-blue-ivy.jhtml">Jay-Z's post-Carnegie Hall party</a>, the singer got all dolled up to hang out with first lady Michelle Obama in Manhattan on Monday night. </P><P> </P><P>The first lady of hip-hop and the <i>actual</i> first lady gathered at the Greenwich Hotel for a fundraising event for President Obama. Along with raising some dough, Beyoncé also raised eyebrows, thanks to her slamming post-baby body. Decked out in a body-hugging navy dress by Victoria Beckham, B rocked sky-high heels, dazzling bling (including a diamond-encrusted eagle) and her hair pulled back in a simple ponytail. So what was Beyoncé doing right in terms of styling herself as a new mom? </P><P> </P><P>"When you think of all the things women dislike about themselves, the majority don't like their upper arms and also have skirt-length issues, so she's addressed both of these. It's an interesting choice because it's snug, not tight," celebrity stylist Robert Verdi told MTV News about B's post-baby style. "There's a distinction. It's body-flattering, for sure. </P><P> </P><P>"It's also a very tasteful length: 2 inches above the knee. It's also a very conservative color, and it's very covered, but it still remains very sexy," he continued about the look. "You don't see all the bumps that women have post-pregnancy. ... Again, the distinction is it's body-conscious without revealing every lump and bump. Tight ain't right, but this ain't tight. This is body-skimming." </P><P> </P><P>With Beyoncé heading back into the spotlight more and more, including a set of <a href="/news/articles/1681308/beyonce-memorial-day-atlantic-city-shows.jhtml">shows planned for Memorial Day weekend</a>, does Verdi think Queen B will reassess her stage style now that she's a mom? </P><P> </P><P>"She's really young, and ... her equity is in her sex appeal, so you can't dismiss that," Verdi said. "She's not going to cover up. I think you've seen a similar evolution with Madonna, where fashion is sexy but is more intellectual. It's not as in-your-face. I think you're going to see the same thing with her. Well, it is Sin City after all. </P><P> </P><P><a href="/music/artist/swift__taylor/artist.jhtml">Taylor Swift</a> always seems to bring some of that Nashville sparkle to any red carpet. She arrived at the show in a pale-hued, sequined Elie Saab gown. <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/minaj__nicki/artist.jhtml">Nicki Minaj</a> showed off her signature sense of style in her baby-blue, body-hugging spandex Mark Fast catsuit. </P><P> </P><P><a href="/music/artist/gomez__selena/artist.jhtml">Selena Gomez</a> turned up the style dial in a sexy, cut-out black Dolce & Gabbana gown that she paired with red strappy sandals with sparkly bow detailing. Like Gomez, <a href="/music/artist/_kesha_/artist.jhtml">Ke$ha</a> opted for some cut-out detailing in her sparkly, slate-gray dress with tulle skirt. <a href="/music/artist/rihanna/artist.jhtml">Rihanna</a> looked white hot in her men's tailored Max Azria suit, which she kept sexy and feminine by not buttoning her shirt all the way. </P><P> </P><P>Fergie went S&M chic in her little black bandage-type dress by Hervé Léger. Nicole Kidman also wore black. She paired a casual braid hairstyle with a long black gown and Keith Urban. British pop cutie Kyle Minogue looked funky in her little black lacey dress. Inside the show, Britney Spears sat in the audience wearing a skimpy black dress of her own, her hair in loose curls, with little-to-no accessories. </P><P> </P><P>While some stars kept the color scheme low-key, Keri Hilson decided to stand out in her billowy little yellow dress paired with a turquoise-colored belt. Kelly Rowland showed off some of her best assets in a body-hugging, bright pink bandage dress. </P><P> </P><P>The fellas also looked tight on the carpet. Gotye is going back to Basics. The singer behind last year’s hit song “Somebody That I Used to Know” returned to his former band, called the Basics, and they released a new music video. Check it out below. Also, Moby announced a new album, and revealed that it would hit stands later this year. All that and more below.
- Moby Announced New Music: Moby will release a new album, titled Innocents, on October 1st. The followup to 2011′s Destroyed will be considered the singer’s eleventh studio album. Billboard reports that the record will feature artists like Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, Skylar Grey, Mark Lanegan, Damien Jurado, Cold Speck, and Inyang Bassey. Moby will promote the album by performing three live shows in Los Angeles.
- Randy Blythe Will Write A Memoir: Lamb of God‘s Randy Blythe feels the need to tell you his story, and will do so in a memoir. Billboard reports that the singer’s untitled book will center on his involvement in a fan’s death in the Czech Republic, which made headlines last June. He was also arrested (on charges of manslaughter), tried, and acquitted earlier this year. The book will hit shelves in the spring of 2014.
- Gotye Releases New Music Video With Former Band: Gotye’s year has been pretty quite thus far. He was everywhere in 2013, but 2012 hasn’t really been his year. But he’s still making music, in case you were wondering. The singer has reunited with his former band the Basics; they came together in 2002, and have four studio albums. They’ll be hitting the road pretty soon, and took the time to make and released a music video for “So Hard For You.” Check it out:
- “Trying To Be Cool” Music Video: Phoenix released the video for “Trying To Be Cool,” a song off their latest record Bankrupt! According to Billboard, the making of the video was tedious, since the crew had to continuously change camera shots every 25 seconds. Check it out:

- Moby Announced New Music: Moby will release a new album, titled Innocents, on October 1st. The followup to 2011′s Destroyed will be considered the singer’s eleventh studio album. Billboard reports that the record will feature artists like Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, Skylar Grey, Mark Lanegan, Damien Jurado, Cold Speck, and Inyang Bassey. Moby will promote the album by performing three live shows in Los Angeles.
- Randy Blythe Will Write A Memoir: Lamb of God‘s Randy Blythe feels the need to tell you his story, and will do so in a memoir. Billboard reports that the singer’s untitled book will center on his involvement in a fan’s death in the Czech Republic, which made headlines last June. He was also arrested (on charges of manslaughter), tried, and acquitted earlier this year. The book will hit shelves in the spring of 2014.
- Gotye Releases New Music Video With Former Band: Gotye’s year has been pretty quite thus far. He was everywhere in 2013, but 2012 hasn’t really been his year. But he’s still making music, in case you were wondering. The singer has reunited with his former band the Basics; they came together in 2002, and have four studio albums. They’ll be hitting the road pretty soon, and took the time to make and released a music video for “So Hard For You.” Check it out:
- “Trying To Be Cool” Music Video: Phoenix released the video for “Trying To Be Cool,” a song off their latest record Bankrupt! According to Billboard, the making of the video was tedious, since the crew had to continuously change camera shots every 25 seconds. Check it out:

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/rihanna/artist.jhtml">Rihanna</a> and <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> have been added to the performance lineup for "The <a href="/news/articles/1673138/lady-gaga-grammy-nominations-concert.jhtml">Grammy Nominations Concert Live!</a> Countdown to Music's Biggest Night," set to go down November 30. </P><P> </P><P>They join already announced acts Lady Gaga, Ludacris, Lupe Fiasco, Sugarland and Jason Aldean. Country crossover act the Band Perry will perform a full concert of their own after the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/grammys">Grammy</a> nominations concert wraps up at L.A. Live's Nokia Theatre. LL Cool J will again host the show, which will air at 10 p.m. on CBS, <a href="http://www.billboard.com/news/rihanna-band-perry-usher-added-to-grammy-1005529002.story#/news/rihanna-band-perry-usher-added-to-grammy-1005529002.story" target="_blank">Billboard.com reports</a>. This marks the fourth year the Recording Academy had held one of these concerts. </P><P> </P><P>As some of music's biggest names take the stage during the special, the nominations for major Grammy categories will be announced. The awards ceremony will go down February 12 at the Staples Center, and will air live at 8 p.m. </P><P> </P><P>Over the course of her career, Rihanna has taken home four Grammy Awards including Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Umbrella," two trophies for "Run This Town" (including Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration) and Best Dance Recording for "Only Girl (In the World)." Rihanna is currently riding high on the forthcoming release of her new album, <a href="/news/articles/1674237/rihanna-talk-that-talk-watch-learn-hit-boy.jhtml"><i>Talk That Talk</i></a>, and two buzzworthy singles, "We Found Love" and "You Da One." </P><P> </P><P>In the thirteen years he's been nominated for Grammys, Usher has amassed seven, including wins for Best R&B Vocal Performance Male for "U Remind Me," Best R&B Vocal Performance Male for "U Don't Have To Call," Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Yeah," Best Contemporary R&B Album for <i>Confessions</i>, Best R&B Vocal Performance By a Duo/Group for "My Boo," Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for "There Goes My Baby" as well as Best Contemporary R&B Album for <i>Raymond v. <P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/kesha_/artist.jhtml">Kesha</a> has joined forces with the Human Rights Campaign to help celebrate National Coming Out Day on Tuesday (October 11). </P><P> </P><P>The pop singer created a special message T-shirt, featuring a purple zebra, that <a href="/news/articles/1653432/kehas-we-r-who-we-r-video-is-hot-and-dangerous.jhtml">proclaims "We R Who We R,"</a> the title of her hit anthem about individuality. The shirts sell for $35, with all proceeds supporting the HRC's work to achieve equality for the LGBT community. </P><P> </P><P>According to the <a href="http://www.hrc.org/press-releases/entry/human-rights-campaign-unveils-t-shirt-collaboration-with-kesha" </P><P>target="_blank">HRC website</a>, only 1,000 shirts will be produced. </P><P> </P><P>Others are also using the day to bring awareness to LGBT issues. Several notable celebrities will be honored by the Equality Forum, which is hosting an event and profiling notable LGBT members in pop culture. </P><P> </P><P>As <a href="http://miamiherald.typepad.com/gaysouthflorida/2011/10/lgbt-history-month-honors-ricky-martin-wanda-sykes-ryan-murphy-pedro-zamora-27-other-icons.html#ixzz1aTgr8yl4" target="_blank">LGBT History Month</a> rolls on throughout October, Ricky Martin, Wanda Sykes, "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy and Pedro Zamora, a former "The Real World" castmember turned AIDS activist, all will be profiled by the organization. </P><P> </P><P>"We're the only minority worldwide that's not taught history at home, in school or religious institutions," said Malcolm Lazin, Equality Forum's founder and executive director. "Like every group that's been marginalized, it really helps to make the case why we should take real pride in ourselves and our community." </P><P> </P><P>Since launching the program five years ago, over 200 icons have been profiled, including Jane Lynch, Lady Gaga and Neil Patrick Harris. Lazin called LGBT month "empowering and life affirming." </P><P> </P><P>The message comes amid increased awareness about young people being bullied, including MTV's <a href="http://www.athinline.org">A Thin Line</a> campaign. The MTV film <a href="http://www.mtv.com/shows/disconnected/series.jhtml">"DISconnected,"</a> which premiered Monday night, focuses on issues in a world where technology controls personal lives. </P><P> </P><P>"I see the viciousness of people every day," said <a href="/news/articles/1672289/jersey-shore-vinny-disconnected-fight-negativity.jhtml"><P>id="1672289">"Jersey Shore" star Vinny Guadagnino</a> on the "DISconnected" after show. "I kind of want to be a soldier in the field, so to speak, and try to combat the negativity with a positive message. <P>As <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyoncé</a> settles into the role of <a href="/news/articles/1677997/beyonce-motherhood-business.jhtml">motherhood</a>, she's attached to another role — this one for the big screen. The pop singer is reportedly in talks to join Ryan Murphy's latest flick. </P><P> </P><P>Billed as "One Hit Wonders," the film would be a musical comedy that could potentially star B's pal Gwyneth Paltrow, as well as Reese Witherspoon, Cameron Diaz and "Saturday Night Live" star Andy Samberg. </P><P> </P><P>The film would follow Paltrow, Witherspoon and Diaz as pop stars who hit it big in the '90s as — you guessed it — one-hit wonders. In order to gain back some of the pop-star recognition they once had, the ladies join forces and form a supergroup. Samberg and his Lonely Island team would be involved in coming up with the movie's songs. Beyoncé's role is still unknown. </P><P> </P><P>The "Glee" creator would direct and co-write the screenplay with his frequent collaborators, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. He's expected to begin work on it after his big-screen adaptation of the play "The Normal Heart." <a href="http://www.deadline.com/2012/02/ryan-murphy-plans-one-hit-wonders-with-gwyneth-paltrow-reese-witherspoon-cameron-diaz-beyonce-and-andy-samberg/" target="_blank">Deadline</a> reports that the film's idea came after Paltrow, Witherspoon and Diaz dined with Murphy at New York hotspot Soho House and they all wanted to work on a fun project together. The pitch to Sony Pictures chief Amy Pascal was reportedly scooped up in 10 minutes. Deals are currently being worked out. </P><P> </P><P>MTV News' email to Murphy's rep had not been returned by press time. </P><P> </P><P>Regardless of how this film shakes out, Beyoncé is reportedly already thinking about her music career again. Producer Ryan Tedder shared that the singer is prepping several <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/02/14/beyonce-prepping-two-new-albums">follow-up albums</a> to <a href="/news/articles/1665479/beyonce-4-leak.jhtml">2011's <i>4.</i></a> </P><P> </P><P>"The conversations about her next album literally just started and there [are] two projects happening. All I can say is, you kind of feed her the best that you have, and she's this phenomenal filter and she takes it all in." You know, I’m surprised we don’t see more of this. Lamar Odom had enough of the paparazzi asking him about his supposed cheating scandal today. The basketball player decided to go through one of the paps cars and toss his belongings into the street. He was actually pretty calm about it! His wife, Khloe Kardashian Odom, took to twitter to defend her husband saying;
