J.J. Abrams Grants 'Star Trek' Fan's Dying Wish
The rather vocal group of online J.J. Abrams haters might have a slight change of heart after reading what the fanboy director recently did to make one man's dying wish come true.
It began nearly a week ago as a desperate plea for help on Reddit. One user, posting on behalf of cancer-stricken friend and his friend's wife, put out a request to anyone who could help arrange a screening of the nine-minute prologue to "Star Trek Into Darkness" or the entire movie, if at all possible.
Word had circulated previously that a cut of the film did exist, so a screening wasn't entirely out of the question, but even in extreme cases, movies like "Star Trek Into Darkness" are the most closely guarded.
However, three days after the original posting, the friend of the dying man gave an update. "Holy cow everybody!!! I just heard from [my friend's] wife that they are going to do it!! I don't know who it what the path was to get there but thank you so much to everyone that tried to help!!!"
Another user, who also knows the man, offered up additional details. "Thanks everyone, and a huge thanks to OP ideeyut for posting this. JJ Abrams just called Dan's wife and left a message. He's going to try to arrange a screening for Dan, either of the film or at least of the 9 minute promo reel."
What say you now, J.J. haters? The man clearly cares a lot about his fans, and that is something we simply cannot feel cynical about.

'Arrested Development' New Season To Premiere On May 4
I think we all collectively just blue ourselves.
If a recent here-one-moment-gone-the-next posting to a Fox publicity site is to be believe, the Bluths and the Fünkes will return on May 4 with 14 new episodes, all set to premiere on Netflix simultaneously.
Oh No They Didn't took a screenshot of the post, which confirmed a larger episode order than the originally planned ten. The listing also offered the titles of the episodes, each named for a single member of the family, with some two-parters (i.e. "GOB" and "GOB 2").
Click past the jump to see the rest of the episodes.
As creator Mitch Hurwitz has described before, the new episodes will follow one character, bringing us up-to-speed with the Bluths since the show's cancellation, with some appearances from other characters from time to time. In theory, this new season will then segue into a feature film.

Couple likely 'trying to protect what they rightfully own or created,' family law expert tells MTV News.

The superstar couple reportedly sought the trademark to stop the use of Blue Ivy's name by others. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="A Gift Buying Guide For Blue Ivy Carter" id="vid:725377.id:1676907" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>It's a smart move, according to family law attorney and author <a href="http://www.vikkiziegler.com/" target="_blank">Vikki Ziegler</a>. "[Seeking the trademark] forestalls competitors from using the child's name and or third parties from attempting to sell the baby's name back to the couple," Ziegler told MTV News. "They are likely trying to protect what they rightfully own or created, shall we say, by trademarking Blue Ivy's name." </P><P> </P><P>The application to trademark Blue Ivy Carter's name, filed by BGK Trademark Holdings (Beyoncé's company) is currently pending but will likely be approved because, as the <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/reliable-source/post/blue-ivy-the-trademark-feds-move-fast-on-rights-to-beyonce-and-jay-zs-babys-name/2012/02/03/gIQAOTDGnQ_blog.html" target="_blank"><i>Washington Post</i></a> reports, parents are legally authorized to trademark the names of their minor children. </P><P> </P><P>"In essence, it's a trademark for a brand, and this brand is expected to be one hot commodity — just look at Blue Ivy's parents," Ziegler said. "Anyone else that tried to use the name after the trademark was approved could be sued and held liable for damages." </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Beyonce Will Emerge As A Hollywood Celebrity Mother Brand" id="vid:724613.id:1676907" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>While the Patent Office looks fondly on attempts to trademark the name of one's own child, attempts to do the same with the names of other people's kids are another story, as two designers learned when they sought — just days after Blue Ivy's birth — to trademark the baby's name for their own use. </P><P> </P><P>Applications from fashion designer Joseph Mbeh to patent "Blue Ivy Carter NYC" and by an unnamed designer to trademark "Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV" for a fragrance line were denied by the Patent Office, which noted in its decision that the name belonged to a "very famous infant" and consumers would wrongly assume that any products bearing the name had been approved by Beyoncé and Jay-Z. </P><P> </P><P>Ziegler noted that the trademark would "protect against others using the child's name as a brand of merchandise in the same marketplace," so it will not impact the "Blue Ivy" trademark held by a clothing boutique in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The store filed to trademark <i>its</i> name on January 19, 2011, a year before Queen B and Jay made the name famous. Lady Gaga Responds To Born This Way Topping 'Pretentious Albums' List
'Eye roll,' Gaga tweets after music mag NME blasts her latest LP.

<P>Earlier this week, British music mag <a href="http://www.nme.com/blog/index.php?blog=1&title=the_most_pretentious </P><P>_albums_ever&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1" target="_blank"><i>NME</i></a> set out to determine the "10 Most Pretentious Albums Ever." The list includes (genuinely pretty terrible) conceptual fare like Kiss' <i>Music From "The Elder,"</i> Lou Reed's <i>Metal Machine Music</i> and, uh, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a>'s <i>Born This Way,</i> which somehow bested all competitors to nab the #1 spot. </P><P> </P><P>How? Well, as <i>NME</i> writer Priya Elan wrote, "On <i>Born This Way,</i> [Gaga] seemed to believe in her own hype, convinced she had a message to share. Cue an album of unwieldy 'anthems' that couldn't mask the fact that the fun had left the building." Elan singled out the thumping "Scheiße" as <I>BTW</i>'s most pretentious moment, adding, "Did electroclash die for this?" </P><P> </P><P>Snap. As you'd probably expect, those jabs had Gaga's Little Monsters on the offensive, and they launched an all-out attack on Elan in the comments section of <i>NME</i>'s website. But Gaga herself remained above the fray — for a while, anyway. </P><P> </P><P>On Thursday night, she took to her <a </P><P>href="https://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga/status/172828595134267392" target="_blank">Twitter account</a> to hit back at <i>NME,</i> a publication that's certainly been <a href="http://i28.tinypic.com/2vwzpfp.jpg" target="_blank">no stranger to charges of pretentiousness</a> over the years. </P><P> </P><P>"Oh the irony of winning 'Most Pretentious Album Ever' from none other than NME. *Eye roll,*" Gaga wrote. "I might laugh forever [and] then return to narcissism." </P><P> </P><P>Double snap. Thom Yorke Confirms Atoms For Peace Album Release Date, Announces More Details
Last month, we were told that the Atoms For Peace – Thom Yorke‘s side project with Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ bassist Flea – would be coming out in February 2013. Today, Yorke confirmed the release date. He also revealed a few extra details including the record’s full track list and the album’s cover art.
On the Radiohead site, Yorke confirmed that the record will indeed be called Amok. It’ll be coming out February 25th, and here’s what the black-and-white cover will look like:
According to the post, you can also pre-order Amok on CD or vinyl now. The first single from the album is called “Default,” which was released on September 10th (hear it below).
Atoms For Peace features Yorke, bassist Flea, drummer Joey Waronker, percussionist Mauro Refosco and producer/guitarist Nigel Godrich. The five first came together in 2010 when Yorke went on tour to support his solo record The Eraser. Yorke mentions in the post that they collaborated for the record, but discovered good energy in doing that, and that’s how Amok was born, during a studio jam session after the tour. was done.
The band will go out tour, but they’re still trying to put that together. Yorke writes:
“I’m still reeling from being on tour for much of the year. But we are planning to get together and play next year! We’re figuring all that out right now”
Atoms For Peace is an ongoing and open-ended project, which means Amok might just be the first of many records to come.
