Usher's Stepson Declared Brain Dead After Jet-Ski Accident

<P>Things went from bad to worse for Kiie Glover, Usher's 11-year-old stepson. After a tragic Jet Ski accident left the <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/07/08/ushers-son-injured-in-jet-ski-accident/">youngster in critical condition</a> on Friday, doctors have now declared him brain dead.</P><P><a href="http://www.tmz.com/2012/07/08/usher-tameka-foster-stepson-brain-dead/" target=="_blank">TMZ</a> is reporting that Glover, who is the son of Usher's ex-wife, Tameka Foster, has not experienced any brain activity since he was admitted into the hospital two days ago. According to reports, the pre-teen and a friend were floating in inner tubes on Lake Lanier in Atlanta when they were struck by a man on a Jet Ski. Glover was unresponsive when he was taken out of the water and airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston; his friend, an unidentified 15-year old girl, was treated for a cut on the head and a broken arm.</P><P>According to the <a href="http://www.ajc.com/news/reports-ushers-stepson-injured-1473926.html" target="_blank"><i>Atlanta Journal-Constitution,</i></a> the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said that alcohol doesn't appear to have been a factor in the accident and the newspaper also reported that the man on the Jet Ski and Glover were part of the same group on an outing at the lake.</P><P>Foster and Usher (born Usher Raymond) were married in 2007 but divorced in 2009. The two are reportedly both present at the hospital.</P><P>Many of Usher and Foster's celebrity friends took to Twitter on Sunday (July 8) to express their deepest sympathies.</P><P>"My deepest prayers go out to Tameka, Usher and both of their families right now," Diggy Simmons wrote.</P><P>"Wishing @TamekaRaymond's son godspeed recovery. horrible news to hear," Roots drummer Questlove added, while television personality La La Anthony wrote: "Praying for @TamekaRaymond and her family. Asking to give her and her family strength during this difficult time. Praying for u Kile."</P><P>This tragedy comes a month after Usher released his latest #1 album, <i>Looking 4 Myself.</i></P><P><i>Share your well wishes for Usher and his family in the comments section.</i></P>

<P>Last month, seemingly against the will of his employer, super producer Dr. Luke leaked a snippet of a song called <a href="/news/articles/1686772/kesha-supernatural-single.jhtml">"Supernatural,"</a> a walloping slab of electro-pop presumably set to be featured on <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/kesha_/artist.jhtml">Ke$ha</a>'s long-in-the-works new album.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Ke$ha Says New Album Will Be ' Balls-Out, Irreverent Rock'" id="vid:652875" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>"You leaked my song about me having sexy time with a ghost!" Ke$h subsequently tweeted at Luke." Now everyone knows I get it on with ghosts!"</P><P>Of course, we're assuming Ke$ha was just feigning outrage at the sneak peek, because in an interview in the new issue of <i>Rolling Stone,</i> she speaks in-depth about her upcoming album (tentatively due later this year), saying that it melds her Auto-Tuned, pop-heavy past with her current, <a href="/news/articles/1663946/kesha-new-album.jhtml">classic rock-indebted present</a>.</P><P>"I want it to be a mix of what works on the radio and what I listen to in my spare time," she said. "I'm on a steady diet of T. Rex and Iggy Pop."</P><P>Ke$ha and Luke also previewed a handful of tracks for the magazine (they have 17 songs in various forms of completion), including "Die Young," the aforementioned "Supernatural" and "Last Goodbye." Tentative guest stars include Flaming Lips' main man Wayne Coyne &#8212; who, back in May, <a href="/news/articles/1685827/kesha-flaming-lips-tattoo.jhtml">spoke to MTV News</a> about working with the singer &#8212; Pop and Black Keys' drummer Patrick Carney. And unlike her previous <i>Animal</i> and <i>Cannibal</i> albums, Ke$ha said that, on her new record, she's not afraid to get deep.</P><P>"The first two records talked more about partying, which is a great, magical part of life. But some songs on the new record are more personal and vulnerable," she said. "And you can hear more of the music I listen to when I'm lying in my bed. I'm not claiming that it's a rock record, but as long as it's f---ing good, you can call it whatever you want."</P><P>And though Ke$ha's worked hard at cultivating her hard-partying persona, her new album is very much a labor of love ... not to mention a nod to the naysayers who dismissed her as nothing more than a flash in the pan.</P><P>"About 90 percent of the time, I don't give a f---. But I give so many f---s about this album," she said. "Some people weren't sure if I could sing. Jay-Z and Beyonce Fail To Trademark Blue Ivy’s Name

Jeez, some people just have nothing but bad luck.  Case in point: notorious hard-luck cases Jay-Z and Beyonce, who have had nothing but bad lately (having their first child, hobnobbing with the President of the United States, Beyonce was selected to perform during next year’s Super Bowl halftime show), had another in their long line of bad days recently: the poor couple failed to have the name of their daughter, Blue Ivy, trademarked so that they monetize and capitalize on the life of their only child.  What a drag, right?

Yes, it’s true: after Blue Ivy’s birth in January of this year, the power pair filed a petition to trademark the newborn baby’s name, “seeking to reserve it for use as a possible brand name for a line of baby-related products, including carriages, diaper bags, and baby cosmetics.”  Sounds terrible, right?

Well, it was even worse for Veronica Alexandra, a Boston wedding planner who started her own company, Blue Ivy in 2009—and had Jay-Z and Beyonce succeeded, she would have had to change the name of her business.  Fortunately for Alexandra, she won’t be having to change her company’s name, as the two superstars were told by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office that the names was not theirs to trademark.  Alexandra later celebrated her victory:

“I knew this was going to be a bittersweet roller coaster…If this wasn’t going to work, I’d go after both of them. Like, ‘Let’s do it!’ In my mind I had some protective rights. There’s no way by way of being a celebrity they should have entitlement [to the name]. Shame on them…Money doesn’t buy everything.”

While she celebrated, Beyonce and Jay-Z were seen with a rag-tag group of Dickensian street children, pan-handling for money on the corner of Rodeo Drive and storing their collections in $5,000 leather handbags.

Complete list of 2012 BRIT Award winners

On Tuesday night (February 21), the 2012 BRIT Awards have named the year’s big winners during an exciting O2 Arena ceremony in London, England.

Taking home the top prize of Best British album and a total of two trophies was Adele, while other big winners included the Coldplay as Best British group, Ed Sheernan as Best British Male/British Breakthrough Act and One Direction landing Best Single for their track titled “What Makes You Beautiful”.

With viewers being led through the crowning of category picks by host James Corden, fans were also treated to dazzling performances by the likes of Coldplay, Rihanna, Florence + The Machine, Bruno Mars, Adele and closing act Blur.

Remembering the fallen music icons, the ceremony featured tributes to Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse (watch below) while Emeli Sande nabbed Critics’ Choice honors.

Whitney Houston dies at 48

It’s no secret she’s had a rough go of it in recent years, and Whitney Houston has died of undisclosed causes, says her publicist Kristen Foster.

With her fans and friends understandably devastated by the news, details available thus far tell that the “I Will Always Love You” singer was found unresponsive in her room at the Beverly Hilton hotel on Saturday (February 11).

With paramedica arriving within minutes, Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55PM with a full investigation already underway - though there are said to be no signs of foul play.

According to TMZ, a search of the Beverly Hilton Hotel room in which the 48-year-old was staying found no illegal drugs, though prescription medications were located.

TMZ adds that there’s a chance Miss Houston died from drowning in the bathtub, but since her body was removed from the water before EMTs arrived the conclusive determination must await an autopsy.

Beyonce To Perform Super Bowl Halftime Show

At least it’s not an over the hill rock act hired solely because they won’t offend anyone, right?

That’s what we were thinking, anyway, when it was announced today that Beyoncé would be the halftime show performer for Super Bowl XLVII on February 3, 2013 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, located in New Orleans.  The news initially leaked via an anonymous person in the know; later, Beyoncé’s official site released a picture of the singer in eye black with the Super Bowl date printed on her face.

An official announcement was expected on Wednesday, according to Billboard, but the picture may have been released to get ahead of the anonymous leaker.  Either way, Beyoncé is your Super Bowl XLVII performer, America, and hey—she’s actually under the age of 50.  Isn’t that something?

Madonna was the performer at this year’s Super Bowl, and if you missed it, well, let’s just say that you’re one of the very, very lucky ones—114 million saw the performance (more than the 111.3 million who actually watched the game, Billboard reports) and are still scarred from the boring, uninspired show.

Many are already speculating that Beyoncé’s involvement in the Super Bowl half time show means a likely performance by her husband, Jay-Z, and possibly a reunion with one or all of her former Destiny’s Child bandmates.
